We are currently recruiting for a Witness Care Officer to work within a unique law enforcement organisation based near Charring Cross. Hybrid model 40% of the month in the office, you will be required to attend court, so flexibility in this position is important. Monday - Friday 36hrs per week. Start October (pending clearance) for 3 with a view to being extended. £13.94ph.

From point-of-charge, as the lead Witness Care Officer in a case, you will work closely with the case team to assist in supporting all witnesses required to attend court to give live evidence. You will also be expected to attend court during our trials and work collaboratively with Counsel, the case team, court staff and the Witness Service to ensure our witnesses receive support they deserve. This could mean travel to Crown courts within England and Wales and staying away from home during extended trial periods.

  • Ensure victim and witness care is delivered in accordance with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime, the Witness Charter and best practice guidance.

  • Provide expertise and advice on victim and witness care to operational colleagues across the organisation working closely with case teams from pre-charge, through trial and to confiscation to ensure victims and witnesses are supported and updated on the progress of the case.

  • Working with case team and counsel from charge to assist in preparation for trial.

  • Ensuring witnesses are warned, supported and updated throughout the trial preparation period.

  • Ensure victims and witnesses are able to achieve their best evidence, including carrying out needs assessments and responding to needs identified, also working with case teams to arrange video-links and other special measure requests.

  • Planning and arranging travel/accommodation for witnesses when required.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong Interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy and relate to a wide variety of people.

  • To work to tight changing and often challenging deadlines

  • Ability to work without close supervision, to make decisions and establish priorities amongst conflicting demands.

  • IT literate, particularly effective and proficient use of all MS Office packages especially word and excel
