Shift Manager (Permanent)

Work Pattern: 06:00AM - 14:00PM / 14:00PM - 22:00PM - 22:00PM - 6AM - Occasional Night Shift Support

Based in Brackmills, Northampton

Salary £35,000 per annum plus shift of 15%

Major Responsibilities and accountabilities

* To train and develop the team leaders.

* Providing a 'hands on' approach the operations achieves set goals and targets.

* Maintain good communications with all areas to ensure effective operation.

* Pro-active management and monitoring of staff performance.

* Effective adjustments to working practices to achieve targets.

* Ensure on time in full (OTIF) shipments.

* Ensuring we deliver on the agreed date in JDA.

* Ensure accurate receiving and storing of all products.

* Ensure that staff are sufficiently skilled.

* Implement any continuous improvement changes.

* Support the Operations Manager with project, initiatives and development.

* Stand in for Operations Manager when required.

* Visiting customers.

* Inbound dock to stock max 24 hours

* Monitor receiving discrepancies.

* Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security.

* Organise the recruitment and training of staff.

People Management:

* Manage and motivate the Team Leaders.

* Confidently manage escalated Employee Relations matters.

* Instigate corrective action if targets are not being met and where necessary, instigate formal performance management proceedings in conjunction with HR.

* Monitor and control sickness absence levels in line with the site Company procedure.

* Ensure effective communication is maintained at all levels.

* Deliver updates for all employers.

* Encourage employees to offer input and improvements ideas.

* Assist with any investigations, disciplinary action.

* Ensure that all paperwork relating to employees is stored within their HR file.

* Be accountable for providing internal coaching.

* Lead cultural change via both direct and indirect reports.

* Address any performance issues or training needs with Operations Manager and HR

* Carry out quarterly performance appraisal (OPR) with all team Leaders.

* Carry out end of year assessment with all Team Leaders.

* Conduct 12 monthly appraisals for Warehouse employees.

* Ensure company and site policies and values are communicated and applied.

* Make all absence and attendance call backs and request correct documentation from HR team.

* Recognise and act on opportunities for staff engagement.

* Actively promote colleague well being.


* Responsible for achieving maximum cost-effective productivity.

* Ensure effective planning & deployment of resource (staff & equipment).

* Ensure daily requirements of the logistics function are achieved.

* Manage workload to satisfy customer orders and other operational requirements.

* Ensure that all customer orders are processed to meet delivery requirements.

* Ensure most cost-effective method of workload planning against overtime hours.

* Liaise with other areas to ensure the logistics function is working efficiently.

* Reports possible procedural improvements to the Operations Manager.

* Work closely with other supporting mangers to ensure they are aware of any high-level operational issues as soon as they occur.

* Ensure a complete and smooth shift changeover occurs.

* Maximise productivity, quality and efficiency across the warehouse.

* Actively works to reduce complexity across all functions.

* Liaise with DC Training & Development Team to ensure all employees are fully trained.


* Monitor staff handling of all the company products.

* Take corrective action to prevent loss or damage.

* Ensure procedures are followed to maintain stock accuracy/integrity.

* Ensure agreed targets are achieved including ISO activities.

* Promote a 5S Culture.

* Manage and maintain DC internal audit schedules.

* Ensure weekly Department BBS targets are maintained.

* Monitor weekly DC Error reports and take corrective action, where appropriate.

Health and safety:

* Keep up to date with HSE audits and follow up actions.

* Understand the requirement for a safe operation.

* Ensure all required audits completed.

* Promote a positive H&S awareness.

* Support Risk Assessments & Safe Systems of Work where and when required.

* Conduct daily security checks on all employees and visitors.

* Ensure a safe and legal environment.

* Take responsibility for site compliance to HSQE standards.

* Ensure HSQE standards are continuously improved.

* Implementation of ISO standard.

* Ensuring the warehouse is maintained to 100% 5S levels at all times

* Demonstrates initiative in day to day tasks and ensures that any areas of concern that may be detrimental to the performance of DC are identified and corrective action taken.

* Promote and implement process improvements.
