Job interviews can be exciting and daunting at the same time, and there’s a lot to think about when you’re prepping for the big day. Although the interview process is geared towards helping your interviewers assess how you would fit in with their company and whether you’re suitable for the role, it’s also your opportunity to get to know the company better and to work out if it’s a good fit for you.

While prepping for the questions the interviewers are likely to ask you, you should also make a list of questions ready to ask them. Well thought-out questions will help you clarify any doubts you have about the company as well as showing the interviewer that you’re seriously considering the role and are picturing yourself working there.

Knowing what you want to ask your interviewers beforehand will make you appear confident, interested, and engaged with the entire interview process and means you’re less likely to hesitate when the interviewer asks you if you have any questions for them – they will often do this towards the end of the interview.

    This question demonstrates to the interviewer that you are looking for a long-term future with the company. It also shows you are career focused and have the drive to succeed. The answer to this question can tell you whether the company has an active training and development program, and what your chances are of growing professionally within the organisation and finding ongoing job satisfaction through new challenges and opportunities.
  • What have previous employees in this position moved on to?

    Although it is essential that the role you’re going for feels right for you, right now, asking this question can help you understand what your career path at the company could look like. Along with the training and development options available, finding out how previous employees have progressed can help you understand whether there is room within the role, and at the company, to take on new responsibilities and grow professionally. This may also be a good time to ask about performance appraisals or company specific-projects and campaigns, giving you a better picture of how things work at the company and the kind of projects you could get involved in.
